It’s the Most Busiest Time of the Year!

I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting when my son started school. A lot of me felt that I would have a lot more time on my hands. But the reality of it is, I find myself with even less time now that both my two older boys are attending school. I originally put my middle son into a three day preschool to give him time to socialize. It was also a great opportunity for me to have alone time with our little baby. With our oldest starting kindergarten in the fall and our middle going three days a week I thought I was set to have a lot of free time. Boy, was I wrong.

Dear Friend, I’m Still Here

Within two weeks of each other, two of my closest friends lost their parents. It was a hectic time, full of tears, anticipation, and craziness. We kept the floral shops in business during that time. There were laughs and tears and wine and coffee. I can’t remember the number of times I picked up my phone and texted I’m here if you need me.

Easy Gifts in a Jar

Has the time slipped away from you and you’re looking for some easy gift ideas? I swear time has just flown by this holiday season! Well if you’re like me and looking for some great last-minute gifts, have I got some ideas for you! I love to give and receive fun gifts in jars – because who doesn’t love a good mason jar? And if you’re the same, you’ll love this post because today I have some fun and easy gifts in a jar for every member of the family! Let’s get those gift wheels spinning!

Letting Go Of My White Picket Fence

I was a suburban mom with two healthy kids, a dog, the husband with the white-collar job, the colonial two-story house with more rooms than we knew what to do with. Two new cars, a pool in the large backyard and all in the confines of our white picket fence. Everything seemed to be perfect because I kept it looking that way. I was the one who kept it all together. I made sure that even the closest of friends and family saw that I had it all together. It’s a full-time job to not be who you really are, to get what you really want or accept that things are not what they seem to be.

My Family’s Elf on the Shelf Reboot: Getting at the Heart of the Season

We’ve all seen the amazing Pinterest ideas about Elf on the Shelf. Writing on the mirror in lipstick, canoodling with Barbie and making mischief in the Christmas tree, he leaves kids in stitches and (oftentimes) parents exhausted. While I adore the magical tradition of the elf moving at night, I don’t feel the same about his mission here in the human world. He’s described by his manufacturers as a “scout that reports back to Santa” and I just can’t deal.
