IloveSnailMailLast year, my mentor and I had a conversation about true friendship and how vital it is, in this season of life especially, to be intentional in pursuing and maintaining mommy friends.

When it comes to intentionality in friendships there are a number of ways to be intentional – plan playdates & mom’s night outs, make meals in times of needs and perform random acts of kindness. The list could go on and on with creative ways to foster your friendships.

But today I’m specifically wanting to share one of the ways I’ve intentionally pursued friendship – Snail Mail!

Yes, ladies!  People actually do send cards, letters, packages and postcards in the MAIL.  It may be shocking to you, but it’s true.

Here are some of my snail mail tips for 2015.

Snail Mail Tips

1) Keep a Calendar with Important Dates.  Whether it’s a calendar on your fridge or one on your smartphone, make sure you’re intentional about noting your friend’s important dates so you don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate with them.  Birthdays, Anniversaries, Due Dates, etc.

2) Think Ahead. There’s a reason why it’s called snail mail – it’s just a bit slower social media and/or email.  Every week I’m looking to what events are on our calendar for the following week as I want to be sure to get cards and packages in the mail on time.  Most cards shipped via USPS will arrive anywhere within 3-5 business days of being shipped.

IMG_08963) Keep cards on stock. This is honestly the best advice I can give you.  When you buy a card, buy 5 others. (Tiny Prints has beautiful thank you cards, personalized stationary and notepads) Birthday cards, anniversary cards, sympathy cards, thank you cards, just saying hello cards.  You’ll use them if you have them!  When you have plenty of cards available it’s super easy to stick it in the mail to your friends and family AND it will more than likely get there on time.  It simply helps to reduce the stress of having to make a special run for a card.

4) Send just because cards/gifts. Although special occasion cards/gifts are always welcomed, a “just because card/gift” is an extra special treat in my book.  Send a card telling someone you’re thankful for them.  Send a card letting an old friend know you’re thinking of them.  Go on a Kindness Adventure. Or pick out a special gift for them. (Tiny Prints has some fabulous gift ideas)

5) Remember the “Other” Events Too. Snail mail isn’t just for birthday’s and anniversaries.  Don’t forget to send something when you find out a friend is expecting, is engaged, got a promotion, is hurting (physically or mentally) or like I said in #4 – just because.

BONUS: Don’t forget all of those baby birth dates.  The day I get a text from a family member/friend announcing the birth of their baby, I mark it down on the calendar.

We’ve teamed up with the lovely folks at Tiny Prints to help make being an intentional friend in 2015 a little bit easier.  Thanks Tiny Prints!
