The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center :: A Beautiful Destination for Moms & Families

This past weekend over 30 women from around the country gathered for our first (hopefully annual!) City Moms Blog Network Sister Site Conference. Over the next few weeks, I know you’ll hear more fabulous things about the incredible time spent with these amazing moms, but what I want to share with you today is the discovery we made while in Houston, Texas.

A Texas girl myself, I never knew this hidden family-friendly resort existed! Tucked back into the treelines of The Woodlands (a short 25 minute drive North of downtown Houston) is one of “America’s Most Family Friendly Resorts” as voted by Fox News. This November, they will be putting the finishing touches on their $60 million renovation, complete with 184 brand new guest rooms and suites, a transformation of the resort’s existing 222 Fairway Pines guest rooms, and the addition of a 1,005-foot lazy river that winds through the resort’s surrounding forest area.

The Staff

During our four day stay, we were all very impressed with how friendly the resort’s staff was—from the valet to reception to the employees who provided support during our conference time. The staff at The Woodlands Resort went above and beyond to make sure we (and all the guests) were comfortable during the stay; including providing complementary transportation by golf cart on the resort grounds from the Waterscape rooms to the resort’s reception and dining areas.

Behind the scenes story :: When they discovered we hadn’t had time to experience their two-story double helix waterslide, the Front Desk staff even went as far as reopening the water slide after closing so our City Moms Blog ladies could go down one time before flights departed the next morning.

The Food

I only wish we’d been able to enjoy our stay a little longer to have experienced more of The Woodlands Resort’s dining options. The resort currently offers 4 separate on-site restaurants with an additional upscale, American steakhouse opening Late October. Guests who stay have the open of dining in the main Dining Room, at The Bistro for small bites and drinks, The Royal Mile Grille for lunch, or laying by the pool and snacking from the Cool Water Café (open seasonally).

Our dining mostly consisted of the resorts catering services, but they spared no expense! Breakfast included a variety of pancakes, eggs, meats, cereals, and freshly made pastries from their in-house bakery. Lunches were delicious pasta and potato salads, gourmet sandwiches, and an endless supply of sweets and snacks. Dinner was by far my favorite. Mixed green salads, stuffed rotisserie chicken, freshly steamed veggies, moist and delicious breads, and of course . . . dessert! If our event food (which was served in bulk) was this good, I can only imagine what the rest of the resort’s restaurants will provide.

The Fun

I can definitely see a family vacation to The Woodlands Resort soon! With so much to do, and being so close to an amazing shopping district, a trip to Houston would make a great weekend getaway for just you and your spouse or with the whole family!

When you make your trip, here’s a few facts you’ll want to remember to help plan your vacation time. The Resort currently has:

  • 36 holes of Championship Golf Courses
  • 21 Court Tennis Facility
  • Over 194 miles of jogging and biking trails
  • Bike rentals
  • 5 Swimming Pools with spas, waterfalls, and slides including a recreation pool, lagoon pool, toddler play pool, and Puffy’s Sprayground
  • 1,005-foot lazy river
  • Water Volleyball and Basketball
  • Seasonal Poolside Entertainment (s’mores, movies, and bands)
  • Full-service business center

While the pools are open year round, know that they’re not heated, so the slides and lazy rivers are only open during their peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Also, all of the resort’s facilities can only be used by guests. They do not offer day passes which is a plus! No insane crowds at this resort!

Looking to plan a family reunion? Keep The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center in mind! They have over 60,000 sq. feet of newly transformed event and meeting space with a 13,430 sq. foot Grand Ballroom and over 30 dedicated meeting rooms—most with windows to overlook the incredible views.

All of our site owners had an amazing weekend — as you can see from the variety of photos from our site owners by follow #SisterSiteConf14 to see for yourself — but this wouldn’t have been possible without the generous hospitality of The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. We hope you’ll think about this beautiful destination when you plan your next family trip!
