20 Non-Toy Gift Ideas

If your house is anything like mine, then it is probably overflowing with too many toys that seem to never get played with or are missing pieces. As birthdays and holidays come around each year, the toy box continues to grow, sometimes out of our control. With my son’s birthday in July, this had me thinking about gift ideas for him that are more practical, that have a longer life span, or that provide a day of making memories together!

I Just Don’t See It

You see, motherhood has made me blind. Blind to the little things in life that just don’t matter. I don’t see the Goldfish smashed in your carpet or the fact that you’ve worn a hat for four days to hide the hair that hasn’t been washed or the text message you forgot to send me because you were just so tired you went to bed early. I don’t see the play date you forgot about because your schedule is just so full right now, your kid’s pants that are two sizes too small because you haven’t had the chance to get to the mall, or that your gift wasn’t wrapped for my kid’s birthday party because throwing it in a paper bag was so much easier.

Mixed Messages To Millennial Moms

I’m a mom of three kids, and I am a Millennial. Do I feel like a stereotypical Millennial? Nope! In fact when I told my husband that we are Millennials, he didn’t believe me and I had to prove it to him via Google. A Millennial is typically categorized as someone born between the years of 1982 and 2004.

To the Mom in a Different Stage of Life than Me

Motherhood is such a funny thing. Similar to life, it seems like it goes so fast and so slow all at the same time. There have been moments in my motherhood journey where I couldn’t wait to get to the next stage and then other moments where I looked back and missed a stage we had quickly passed by.

I’m Not a “Crunchy” Mom Anymore

I’m not 100% organic. In fact, I’m not 100% anything anymore. It’s just not possible to raise two tiny humans and have a healthy marriage and a fulfilling social life and a rich spiritual existence and be physically fit and start a career and be perfect at it. “There is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million…

An Open Letter to Parents of T(w)eens: Do You Know Where Your Child’s Phone Is?

We have an 8th grade son who we consider to be a kind, caring, and mature young man. We, like each of you, try our best to guide him as he navigates what can be difficult situations for a teenager. We think we do a good job…

From a Mom Who “Used to be Hot”

We owned this summer. I mean, we totally killed it. From spending countless hours at the pool to building the mother of all playhouses in our backyard, I can look back and say we made the most of the hot Alabama summer in 2017. One of the highlights was a family trip to Alabama Splash Adventure, our …

Watch Your Mouth Around My Kid

I have a terrible potty mouth. Just filthy. I’m an educated, intelligent, professional woman with an extensive lexicon. I’m able to expound prolifically using a plethora of words and phrases. And, sometimes, there is no more appropriate a word to use than a well-placed f-bomb. My family jokingly took bets as to …

A Little Secret for Working Moms

Working moms have two jobs — the one that pays them, and the one they love more than life. And there are so many times these two jobs are at odds with each other, are pitted against each other, suck time and energy from each other, and pull a working mom in too many directions when she has no give …

If You Take a Mom to Target…

The first sip of that foamy lifeline will remind her that she’s out of milk. She will check her Cartwheel App to see if there is a special, and notice a 5% off coupon for Boogie Wipes, and figure she might as well stock up- because pollen. While heading to baby care, she will get distracted by an adorable tiny …

I Am a Cancer Mom, But Please, Don’t Call Me Strong

Just a few phrases that are lobbed at us cancer moms. Oh, the strength! Oh, the ability to do hard stuff! Your family is so strong! Keep up the fight! Guess what? We are tired. We are weak. We are terrified. We wear T-shirts with our kids names on them, and call them fighters and warriors. As cancer moms, we …

What Your Position in The Car Line Says About You

Car Line. If you’ve made it to preschool or beyond, you will know that there are some interesting dynamics at play in the car line. We are still at the preschool level, but I’ve heard from some …

Two Little Secrets For Surviving the Infancy…

I think there are two little facts that make surviving the season of infancy so much easier. Ready for this? 1. They are ALL good babies. 2. This season is all- consuming, but it does end. How many times have you been asked, “Is she a good baby?” or “Is she sleeping through the night?” You probably have …
